How do I choose the right club for my athlete ?This is a good question. As a parent I encourage other parents to review the costs of the club prior to tryouts and then also review the clubs prior years standings. You will want to know if your hard earned money going towards results compared to other teams in the area. Review USAV AZ region last season by clicking on either Club, Open, or Championships > Region Championships > see standing results https://www.azregionvolleyball.org/page/show/3585118-club-16-results For AZ Challengers as a brand new club, we will not show up in last years results. This makes for a challenging decision.... What I can say is that our club board members combined have over 50 years of volleyball coaching experience, with one member in the volleyball hall of fame. We know the sport well and we are excited to teach kids how to be good volleyball athletes. Also AZ Challengers is a non profit volleyball club that is not out to make money off of your kids. The club runs on a minimalistic budget with the goal to keep the costs as low as possible in order to serve all types households regardless of any income constraints.

How much does it cost?2023-24 season prices will vary depending on the team size. Each girl who joins the team will pay a one time deposit for the season that covers the cost of jerseys and then a monthly payment which covers the cost of maintaining a team (coaches compensation, gym fees, volleyball gear, etc). Here is a rough idea if your child is selected for a team: • Average deposit cost will be around $160 + $55 USAV AZ region membership, paid up front • Average monthly fees will be around $150 (paid Dec-June) Extra tournaments in the schedule will require the team to do fundraising to cover the costs of hotels, coaching, and tournament fees, as these are outside the monthly fees listed above.

How do you keep the costs so low?AZ Challengers is a non-profit volleyball club. All monies earned go directly back into the club. Yes our fees are much lower than most clubs. By keeping the costs as low as possible for the athletes it allows us to support any athlete who lives in an underprivileged area. Every child deserves the opportunity to play a sport they love regardless of any household income constraints. Our club is committed to teaching, supporting, and promoting all athletes from any background who love volleyball as a sport.

How many tournaments will my athlete attendAZ Challengers pays for the USAV Arizona regional tournaments which gives the players a standard 6 tournaments per season (does not include end of season championships which could be 1-2 more tournaments) The club also budgets for an additional 2 tournaments outside of this league but within the sate, monthly fees will cover this cost. In addition to above tournaments the club has a list of an additional 2-4 out of state(!) tournaments that the team can fundraise for and attend. After tryouts please reach out the the club director for a full schedule. This schedule will include all the additional/potential tournaments that are out of state. As a team we will decide together which ones are best to go to.

What division does the AZ Challengers play in?There are a couple of leagues in our area in general: 1) USAV AZ region: • Club - base level of competition • Open - med level of competition • Championship - highest level of competition 2) AAU - • Classic - lowest level • Spirit - lower intermediate • Aspire - Upper intermediate • Club - middle • Premier - second highest • Open - highest level 3) JVA - • Open - lowest level • Club - medium level • Classic - second highest level • Premier - highest level Of the three above AZ Challengers holds a club membership for USAV AZ Region which guarantees the players 6 tournaments + playoffs if they place well within their seeding. Girls will pay for this membership upfront at tryouts ($55). The other divisions (JVA or AAU leagues) have one-off tournaments that we can attend as well. Please contact Club Director for full schedule after tryouts of what league/tournament the club will attend.

What if my child doesn't make a team?Team selection is based off of skill level and their age bracket. If your kiddo did not make it into a team they can still participate and learn a lot. AZ Challengers will offer players that didnt make the team a practice position. For practice only players it is free to attend any and all practices but they are required to hold an USAV region membership (this is outside our club) cost is around $55 for the year. This allows them to be in the gym with the team and insured. There is also a possibility if the roster is low for a tournament they may be called up to play. All arrangements will be discussed in advance with your coach or club director. You always have the option to look at other teams in the region as well. We believe in being transparent with players and parents.

What teams (ages) is the club offering ?For 2023-24 season we are looking to fill a teams of 17U and 16U girls. If turnout is large for other age groups we can look into options but right now those two age groups are the teams we plan to fill and take to tournaments this season. Feel free to use USAV's website to look up what team your child qualifies for based on their birthday: https://www.azregionvolleyball.org/agedefinitions
